The secondary literature in the history of economics is large. A number of journals now specialize in the field, and various general journals also publish history of economic thought articles. The major journal in the field is History of Political Economy. A subject index for the years 1969 (when the journal began) and 1983 can be found in the Winter 1983 issue of HOPE. My own updating of the index, through 2002, can be reached electronically through the link on the main page or through the link below.
Other journals specializing in the history of economic thought include
Journal of the History of Economic Thought
European Journal of the History of Economic Thought (which can be accessed electronically through Milner Library)
History of Economic Ideas
History of Economics Review
Unfortunately, Milner Library does not subscribe to any of these journals. Slightly offsetting this problem is the fact that I have issues of the JHET going back to 1989 (when it was the Bulletin of the History of Economics Society).
A journal specializing in the closely related area of methodology is
The Journal of Economic Methodology
