ABOUT THE 2002 CARROLL ROUND AT GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY
The articles in this volume were submitted to the UAUJE from
participants in the 2002 Carroll Round at Georgetown University.
Each of the papers was presented at the conference and then submitted
to the UAUJE for review.
The Carroll Round at Georgetown University is an Undergraduate
Conference Focusing on Contemporary International Economic Research
and Policy. Students from some of the Nation's top universities
participated in the 2002 conference from April 5-7.
The conference brochure describes the purpose of the conference
as follows:
"The 2002 Carroll Round
offers 40 distinguished
seniors from the nation's most selective colleges and universities
unique opportunities to present original economic research and
to discuss contemporary policy issues. The conference represents
a new students' round of economic discussion and debate in light
of the momentous changes that have occurred in the global economy.
Conceived entirely by undergraduates [at Georgetown] and sponsored
by The Sallie Mae Fund, the event [replicates] a professional
conference in form and content. It [focuses] primarily on participants'
submissions followed by discussions addressing leading theories
in the discipline, research methodologies, and their application
to policy-making. Students
have the chance to view policy-making
and policy-makers in action and interact with distinguished members
of the economics community.
The editorial board of the UAUJE is pleased to be able to
support this fine conference by reviewing submissions from conference
participants and publishing several Carroll Round papers. We
especially appreciate the leadership shown by Christopher Griffin,
the Founder and Chair of the 2002 Carroll Round.
Readers should take note of the many advantages of the on-line
PDF format of the UAUJE. Papers can be read linearly, or specific
sections can be selected from the bookmark column.
