Applying For Admission to the Major

Minimum qualifications for admission to the major in Economics:

A student currently enrolled at Illinois State University who wants to be admitted to the Economics major must have:

  1. An ISU grade point average of 2.0 or higher based on at least 12 hours completed at Illinois State,
  2. An ISU grade point average of 2.5 in the Economics courses he/she has completed to date, and
  3. For a student under the 2006-07 or later catalog, a grade of C or better in each of the core Economics courses-ECO 105, ECO 138 (or approved substitute), MAT 121 (or MAT 145), ECO 238, ECO 240, ECO 241, ECO 300-he/she has completed.

Students wishing to apply for admission to the Economics major must download and complete the Application for Admission to the Economics Major or Minor. Submit your completed application form to the Economics department office, currently located in Room 425 Stevenson Hall.

Students will be admitted to the Economics major from a pool of qualified applicants on the basis of individual qualifications. The number of students admitted may vary from year to year depending on program capacity and qualifications of students in the pool. The Department of Economics reserves the right to maintain a balanced enrollment.

Applications for admission to the Economics major are accepted and processed ONLY during February and September of each year.

Students applying for admission to the Economics major will be notified of the status of their application, via campus email, according to the following schedule:
